Merry Christmas!

We are looking forward to our Christmas Party this afternoon and Polar Express Day tomorrow!  And, of course, everyone is excited for our Christmas Break and all the fun with family and friends.  We have talked in class about the challenge of keeping Jesus our focus during the busyness of this time of year.  I pray that all of you experience the Joy of Jesus as you celebrate His birth on Christmas.

*Students will bring home their "Monday Envelopes" today - there are some graded papers that make more sense for you to see now rather than in a couple weeks!

*I will post a newsletter a few days before we return to school on January 7.  We will have spelling words and memory work that week.  However, we will be learning our third quarter spelling homework options in class, so students will not have a weekly homework assignment to complete on their own.

Blessings on your Christmas!  See you in 2019!

Stability Balls...

In the past two weeks, we've had four stability balls get holes in them!  They have all been accidental, and sometimes we haven't even figured out what caused the hole.  However, I know this is frustrating for the students, and I also know replacing them is a hassle and expense for families.  Please know we have plenty of chairs, and students are not required to have a stability ball.  We'll continue to work on being safe and careful with all of our school supplies, and I apologize for any inconvenience!

Northeast Taste-Testing

It's finally here!  We are wrapping up our study of the northeast region, and it is time to enjoy tasting foods from the northeast!  On Friday, December 7, students are invited to bring in foods from the northeast for us to try - this does serve as our lunch for that day!  Please take a look at our Sign-Up Genius link and donate or volunteer as you are able.  Thank you!

Veterans Day Chapel

Here is the Facebook Live link for the video recording of yesterday's chapel.  Special thanks to Mrs. Cooksey for filming!  We also are very thankful to Mrs. Merten, Mrs. Rohde, and Mr. Domsch for all of the behind the scenes work they did to help us prepare.  The students did a marvelous job honoring our Veterans and glorifying God!

Welcome 2018-2019 Families!

Hello!  Welcome to the 4th grade blog!  This will be the place to get news, information, updates, photos and more to help throughout the school year.

I look forward to seeing many of you at Back to School Night, this Monday, from 4:00-6:00pm.  It's a great chance for your child to see our classroom, find their desk, drop off school supplies, and see their friends.  Parents will be able to take care of registration details and attend a classroom session to learn more about 4th grade.  If you are not able to attend, it is no problem to bring school supplies on the first day of school, and all information from the parent sessions will be sent home and/or posted to this blog.

Below, you'll see our school supply list - just in case you need it!  Let me know if you have trouble finding anything!

Please email me if I can help you in any way: senechalc@concordiaomaha.org

Looking forward to a great year!

Final Newsletter of the 2017-2018 School Year

It is crazy to think that another school year is coming to an end!  I know we all feel like the first day of school wasn't that long ago.  What a great year we have had!

A few quick notes:
*Students will bring home some school supply items today and the rest on Monday.

*Students may want to bring an extra bag (like a grocery bag) to help carry their things home on Monday - sometimes backpacks aren't quite big enough!

*Watch for your child's Monday envelope - it will include all of our final graded items including some wonderful art, writing, math, the 50 States Challenge, and more!

*If you would like, students can still bring items for the school's Blessing Box.  We are hoping to keep it stocked throughout the summer, so donations are gladly accepted!

*If you'd like to send a final chapel offering, we are supporting Sarah Kanoy, a medical missionary serving several countries in eastern Africa.  She is a Concordia graduate, and we'd love to be able to support her ministry!

Week of April 23-27

Hello!

I was extremely blessed to be able to attend the Nebraska Educational Technology Association (NETA) conference this past Thursday and Friday.  Wow!  I learned so much and can't wait to share with our class.

I did not post a newsletter for this coming week.  Due to preparations for the spring musical (this Thursday, April 26, at 7:00pm) and Field Day (Friday, April 27), we will not have a spelling test or memory work.  We will do some spelling and memory things during the school day, but students will not need to study at home for a spelling test or to recite memory.

I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend!

Lincoln Field Trip Photos

We had a wonderful time in Lincoln - even though it was cold and snowy in April!  Your children were kind, polite, and well-behaved - all the guidance you give them at home really shows.  It was fun to see them get excited about things we have studied as well as all the new things they learned.  I hope they tell you all about our day!

Newsletter for March 19-23

Hello!  There are many important announcements and reminders in this
week's newsletter, so don't forget to
take a look!

Also, starting next Tuesday, we will have two teacher education students from Midland University earning some language arts field experience credits in our classroom.  They will be with us twice a week for about six weeks.  They will observe, work with small groups, and have the opportunity to teach a lesson.  I have told them that they will love working with this terrific class!

Information Reports

We have spent a lot of time learning about the steps in gathering information for our informational reports.  Through time at school, most students have found 3-4 facts for each of their subtopics.  I am asking all students to bring home their Informational Report Notebooks to share with you this weekend.  It would be great if you could look through it with them and have your child tell you what they have been learning.  If your child needs more research, they can use internet resources - we have been using  Google or Safari searches for this project.  I'd like to have all students complete research by Monday so we can move on to the next steps in the writing process.  Thank you for your help!
