Valentines!

Our class will have a Valentine's Day Party on Thursday, February 14 - special thanks to our wonderful room parents who plan and organize such fun events!  If your child would like to bring Valentines, I ask that he or she bring one for each student in the class - we have 27!  We will be making Valentine boxes in school (don't forget to send a cereal box by this Friday, February 8).

Long Division

In math, we have been using the "Grid" or "Box" method as we're working on our long division skills.  While this is different from the traditional method, it is really effective in helping students learn the steps and keep their numbers organized.  We are also going to learn the traditional long division that many of us are most familiar with.  In class, we've talked about the value of knowing several ways to solve problems and how some strategies will work better for some people.  I wanted to share this video, in case you wanted to see a better example of this new method we've been trying.
